The women’s draw is led by Egypt’s top-three-ranked women in the world and Team USA’s world No. 4 Olivia Weaver, while the past four U.S. Open champions and top-four-ranked players in the world lead the men’s draw.
Defending champion and world No. 1 Nour El Sherbini occupies the women’s top seed. The seven-time world champion has captured both major titles this season–the Egyptian Open and Paris Open–and will aim to continue her unbeaten run in Philadelphia. El Sherbini is seeded to meet Weaver in the semifinals in what would be a rematch of the Paris Open Quarterfinals. Weaver, who has reached two U.S. Open semifinals in the past three years, will face a difficult first-round test in U.S. teammate and world No. 16 Sabrina Sobhy–a rematch of the 2024 U.S. Women’s Championship final.
The bottom half of the women’s draw features three Americans. World No. 10 Amanda Sobhy, a 2023 U.S. Open semifinalist, continues her comeback from a second Achilles rupture this season and will hope to build on her positive performances at the Egyptian Open and Paris Open. Sobhy will face a tough first round match up against Belgium’s world No. 5 and five seed Nele Coll.
The Stefanoni sisters, Marina and Lucie, are set for both women’s wild card positions. Marina, who is amidst her first season as a full-time professional after graduating from Harvard, will take on Belgium’s world no. 7 Tinne Gilis in the first round. Lucie, a sophomore at Harvard, will face Scottish veteran Lisa Aitken–the winner of which will likely face world No. 2 Nouran Gohar in the second round.
World No. 1 Ali Farag has the chance to join an elite group of three-time U.S. Open champions as the men’s top seed. Farag, the 2023 U.S. Open finalist, will be motivated to win his first major title of the season after falling short in both the Egyptian Open and Paris Open finals. Farag is seeded to face defending champion and four seed Paul Coll in the semifinal.
After missing out on the 2023 U.S. Open due to suspension, 2021 champion Mostafa Asal returns with sights set on his second title at the Specter Center. The twenty-three-year-old world No. 2 has been a force to be reckoned with this season, capturing both the Egyptian Open and Paris Open titles. Peru’s world No. 3 Diego Elias, the 2022 champion, stands in his way in the bottom half of the draw as the three seed.
World No. 31 Timmy Brownell leads the three-player U.S. men’s contingent. Brownell will aim to reach his second consecutive U.S. Open round of sixteen by winning his first round match against former Penn star Aly Abou Eleinen. World No. 71 Spencer Lovejoy will target his first career U.S. Open win as a wild card against England’s Adrian Waller in the first round. Seattle native Salim Khan will make his U.S. Open debut as the second wild card, and will line up against Egypt’s world No. 5 Mazen Hesham.
