One of the central goals of the U.S. Open presented by Macquarie Investment Management is to expose the game to new people. The very first fan into the Daskalakis Athletic Center at Drexel for the very first match on the ASB GlassCourt was a good example.
It was Alan Perry. He came up from Washington, DC to come to the Open. It was the first squash tournament he’s ever attended. Perry originally came across squash at North Carolina State. He now regularly plays at the YMCA Arlington Tennis & Squash Center outside the nation’s capital.
“It’s exciting to be here,” said Perry. “I’ve never been to a tournament before and I love the atmosphere. I like going to the early rounds of tennis tournaments and I thought this might be the right time to see the U.S. Open, early in the event.”
