Top ranked players set to compete in U.S. Open

The World’s top ranked Mens’ and Womens’ players have entered the 2011 U.S. Open Squash Championships, September 29th-October 6th, in Philadelphia PA. Led by World # 1’s Nick Matthew and Nicol David, 22 of the top 25 ranked men, along with the top 8 ranked women will compete for $175,000 in combined prize money at the Daskalkis Center on the campus of Drexel University.

Matthew, the Sheffield based Englishman who rose to the top of the rankings this past May, will be joined on the Men’s side by eight of the top ten ranked players in the World, including Egyptians Karim Darwish, Amr Shabana, and Mohamed El Shorbagy, along with England’s Peter Barker and James Willstrop. Frenchmen Thierry Lincou and Australian David Palmer, ranked 8th and 10th respectively, round out what is one of the strongest U.S. Open draws ever.

David, who hails from Malaysia, has been the top ranked female player for nearly five years and did not lose a match in 2010. She has already won three tournaments in five appearances thus far in 2011, including her first Australian Open title last weekend. She is joined in the draw by top ranked players, including England’s Jenny Duncalf and Laura Massaro,  Australia’s Rachel Grinham and Kasey Brown, Ireland’s Madeline Perry and Raneem El Weleily of Egypt.
