McWIL Courtwall Inc. is providing the official Delaware Investments Glass Show Court for the 2013 U.S. Open Squash Championships at Drexel University October 9-18.
McWIL has provided the glass court each edition of the U.S. Open since 2004 with the 2013 U.S. Open marking the 60th tournament in North America that McWIL has catered.
“McWIL is pleased to have an active role in the efforts undertaken by US Squash to broaden the appeal and availability of top-level squash to US enthusiasts,” said David Carr, CEO of McWIL.
“As a marquee event on the World Tour it is important that the court serves the players, spectators and video viewers, and we have taken every step over the years to optimize the court to meet those goals. For 2013 we have moved to LED lighting, so not only the side walls are “green!”
Since 2004 McWIL has been a strong partner to the U.S. Open, setting up a world class stage in remarkable venues like Chicago’s Michigan Avenue and Pritzker Pavilion (2009 and 2010 respectively), Boston Symphony Hall, Roseland Ballroom and now the Daskalakis Athletic Center at Drexel University for its third year in a row.
“To be able to have a portable showcase stadium that can be constructed in the such unique venues is really one of the Squash’s major differentiators from other sports, said Conor O’Malley, Vice President of US SQUASH Properties.
“The McWIL Team has accomplished these set ups time and time again overcoming sometimes impossible timelines and geographical challenges, when the court needs to travel from California to Pennsylvania in just around three days.”
The court itself is weighs almost 18,000lbs with the individual panels weighing in at 300-400 lbs per glass unit.
