Locals Stoker and Sharp Round Out U.S. Open Qualifying Field

The 2016 Delaware Investments U.S. Open Squash Championships qualifying field is complete after Georgina Stoker and Dane Sharp won the local pre-qualifying finals Tuesday night at Drexel University’s Kline & Specter Courts in Philadelphia.

For the fourth consecutive year, Berwyn Squash & Fitness’ Stoker reached U.S. Open qualifying via the pre-qualifying finals. Stoker, an English international and former touring professional, defeated Fairmount Athletic Club and Malaysia’s Wee Nee Low, who was making her pre-qualifying debut, 10-12, 11-2, 11-7, 11-5.

In the men’s final, Fairmount’s Lyall Paterson made his second consecutive pre-qualifying finals appearance against Merion Cricket Club and Canada’s Dane Sharp. Sharp, who made one U.S. Open qualifying appearance in 2013, will make a second appearance this year after defeating Paterson 11-7, 11-7, 10-12, 11-5.

Stoker and Sharp will contest the first round of U.S. Open qualifying at either Drexel University, Racquet Club of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Cricket Club or Merion Cricket Club, October 6.
