Injuries run rampant at this year’s U.S. Open as Dutchman Laurens Jan Anjema becomes the fifth player forced to withdraw due to an ongoing ankle and foot injury.

Current world No. 16 and runner-up in the 2010 Open, Jan Anjema, was forced to withdraw from his quarterfinal match in the NetSuite Open against Colombian Miguel Angel Rodrigues, world No. 14, in San Francisco last week, and hasn’t recovered in time for the U.S. Open.

The thirty-one-year-old’s departure from the U.S. Open moves India’s Saurav Ghosal, world No. 17, into the eighth seeded position, against Egyptian Fares Dessouki, world No. 30, who moves into the  main draw in the first round.
